The Everest Base Camp Trek follows the classic route through the Khumbu Valley, starting with a flight to Lukla and continuing on foot towards the world's highest mountain. Along the way, you pass through Namche Bazaar, Tengboche and several high mountain villages while gradually gaining altitude.
What it is like
The trail combines busy Sherpa settlements with quiet mountain paths, suspension bridges, monasteries and wide Himalayan valleys. As you move higher, the landscape becomes more rugged, with views of Ama Dablam, Lhotse, Nuptse and Everest. The biggest moments come at Everest Base Camp and Kala Patthar.
What it asks of you
This is a challenging high-altitude trek with several days of walking for 5–8 hours. Two acclimatization days are included at Namche Bazaar and Dingboche to help your body adjust to the increasing altitude. A steady pace, proper preparation and following your guide's safety advice are important.
Permits
The trek requires the applicable Sagarmatha National Park entry permit and local Khumbu/Sagarmatha-area fees or registrations. Required permits and documentation are normally arranged before the trek.
