Annapurna
The most varied trekking in Nepal, and the easiest to fit into a short trip. Everything from a two-day walk to a three-week circuit.
Annapurna is where most people start, and a lot of people come back. Everything runs from Pokhara, which means less time getting to the trailhead and more time walking — you can be on a ridge with a Himalayan skyline in front of you the afternoon you arrive.
Terraced hillsides and Gurung and Magar villages low down, rhododendron forest in the middle, and above the treeline a wall of snow: Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre, Dhaulagiri across the valley. The lodges are the most comfortable in the country and the trails are well marked.
Anyone. Poon Hill and Australian Camp are genuinely achievable for a family with a few days; Annapurna Base Camp is a week; the full Circuit over Thorong La is a serious high pass and a fortnight. The region is deep enough that we can match a route to almost any amount of time.
Excellent in autumn and spring. Very good in winter below 3,500 m, when the trails empty and the air is at its clearest. Wet in the monsoon, apart from the far north.
